Research
Research is Tapeboard's per-ticker dossier at /research/<TICKER> — a price header, chart, and eight tabs (Overview, Financials, Estimates, Insider Activity, SEC Filings, Peers, News, AI Briefing) that stack fundamentals, short-squeeze score, dividend and split history, analyst flow, an AI: Break It Down masthead button, and an AI brief onto one symbol-keyed page.
Research is the per-ticker dossier. One URL — /research/<TICKER> — surfaces a live price header, a full chart, and eight tabs of company data keyed to the symbol: Overview, Financials, Estimates, Insider Activity, SEC Filings, Peers, News, and AI Briefing. It's where you do the work between spotting a name in the Scanner and putting on the trade.
What it is
A masthead-plus-tabs layout. At the top sits a brutalist company header (ticker, name, logo, exchange, sector, live price with extended-hours line) and a collapsible chart. Below the chart is a row of eight tabs you switch between with a click or a single keystroke. The Overview tab also stacks several sub-cards — short-squeeze score, dividend history, stock-split history, short interest — that are not separate tabs but live inside Overview.
The eight tabs and their hotkeys:
| Tab | Key | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Overview | O | Key metrics grid, sentiment, short interest, short-squeeze score, dividends, splits |
| Financials | F | Income statement, balance sheet, cash flow (annual/quarterly) |
| Estimates | E | Analyst buy/hold/sell, earnings surprises, upgrades/downgrades |
| Insider Activity | I | Form 4 buys/sells + net-activity chart (MSPR) |
| SEC Filings | S | 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, DEF 14A, Form 4 list |
| Peers | P | Side-by-side valuation vs. up to five comparables |
| News | N | Ticker-filtered headlines with sentiment tags |
| AI Briefing | A | Generated structured brief on the company |
Use ← / → to cycle tabs. The page also remembers the last ticker you researched, so the Research nav item returns you there instead of resetting.

Search and ticker entry
- Direct URL:
/research/<TICKER>— symbols are normalized to uppercase, so/research/nvdaand/research/NVDAresolve to the same page. - Header search: click the magnifier (
GO_TO…) in the header to expand an inline ticker search with type-ahead; press Enter to jump. - Prev / Next arrows: the paired
←→buttons in the header walk your recently-viewed tickers (stored locally, last 20). - From elsewhere:
⌘K → ticker, or pressRon a row in the Scanner.
AI: Break It Down
The masthead toolbar carries its own [ BREAK_IT_DOWN ] button, separate from the Pro-gated [ AI ▾ ] menu below it (AI Briefing / Research Report / Trade Setup). It opens the same bottom sheet documented on Movers → AI: Break It Down — a five-section, compliance-framed read of what's moving the name (WHAT'S MOVING IT / BULL CASE / BEAR CASE / RISK FLAGS / UNKNOWNS), plus an EARNINGS DESK tab when the name is within about a week of reporting. It's deliberately not folded into the Pro AI menu: cache reads work instantly for anonymous visitors, and on-demand generation is a free-tier daily allowance rather than a hard paywall.
Chart
A full AdvancedChart sits under the masthead, sharing its engine with the /chart surface. It carries the same drawing tools, indicator set, candlestick-pattern detection, and a favorites timeframe bar — and the indicator set and favorite timeframes are shared cross-surface, so pinning 1m on /chart pins it here too. The chart is collapsible (the state persists), and there's a [ TAPE + L2 ] toggle that opens a Level 2 depth ladder plus a live time-and-sales tape beside it. The Level 2 / tape surface is Terminal-tier (trials get a taste); everything else on the chart is open to all tiers.
Overview
The default tab and the fastest read on a name. It stacks, top to bottom:
- Key metrics grid — valuation (P/E TTM, forward P/E, P/S, EV/EBITDA, market cap), profitability (margins, ROE), trading data (beta, 52-week range, volume), and dividends/financial-health (yield, debt/equity). A company-profile block carries description, sector, industry, CEO, employees, country, IPO date, and website.
- Sentiment widget — a compact sentiment read (tier-gated on the
sentiment.widgetfeature). - Short interest — latest float shares, shares outstanding, free float, and a historical short-interest table (only shown when data exists).
- Short-squeeze score — see below.
- Dividend history and stock-split history — two side-by-side cards (each only shown when data exists).

Short-squeeze score
A 0–100 score with a 30-day sparkline, FINRA-threshold flag, universe rank, and a component breakdown. The five weighted components are Short Interest / Float, Borrow Fee, Float Utilization, Days to Cover, and 5-Day Momentum — each shown with its raw value, z-score (σ), weight, and a contribution bar. Color bands: ≥70 high (green), 40–69 elevated (yellow), <40 low. A THRESHOLD chip appears when the ticker is on the FINRA threshold-securities list. The card links to the full methodology at /methodology/short-squeeze-score; the cross-ticker leaderboard lives at /scanner/squeeze and the SEO surface at /short-squeeze-stocks. Tickers without short-interest + borrow data show "No score available yet" — they're not in the squeeze universe.

Dividend history
A table of recent dividends with ex-date and payment date, plus a trailing-twelve-month (TTM) annual total summary. Only renders for dividend payers.
Stock-split history
A table of historical splits with the date and ratio (e.g., 4:1). Only renders for tickers that have split.
Financials
The full statements, sourced from the same issuer filings that back the public /stock/<TICKER> page. Three sub-tabs select the statement:
- Income Statement
- Balance Sheet
- Cash Flow
A frequency toggle switches between annual and quarterly periods. Each period is a column with a filing date; the most recent disclosure's date is surfaced unambiguously (older restated columns can carry a later filing date). An optional AI summary of the statements is available on Pro+ (free users get an upgrade prompt). Period depth is tiered: Free = 5 periods, Pro = 20 (about five years), Terminal = unlimited (whatever the issuer has filed, typically 40–80 periods).

Estimates
The analyst picture, in three blocks:
- Analyst estimates — the buy / hold / sell consensus rendered as a recommendation bar with counts, plus price-target context. Shows
NO_ANALYST_DATAwhen no coverage exists. - Earnings surprises — the last four quarters of actual vs. estimate EPS, with a beat/miss bar per quarter and a values table beneath.
- Upgrades / downgrades — recent rating actions (upgrade, downgrade, initiated, reiterated) color-coded green/red, with the firm and date.

Insider Activity
Form 4 transactions — open-market buys (P), sells, grants/awards (A), option exercises, and gifts — with the insider's title, share count, and dollar value. A summary strip totals shares bought, sold, and net activity. Each row deep-links to the filing on SEC EDGAR (filtered to that company's Form 4s by CIK). Below the table, an MSPR chart (Monthly Share Purchase Ratio) plots net insider sentiment over time. Cluster buys near 52-week lows are the signal; scheduled 10b5-1 sells are noise.
Free tier shows the last 10 transactions with a SHOWING 10_OF_N. UPGRADE_FOR_FULL. note; Pro+ unlocks the full history. See also the standalone Insider screener.

SEC Filings
The EDGAR filing list, newest-first, with a type filter: All, 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, DEF 14A. 8-K rows surface the item description. Form 4 (insider) filings are split into their own section so the main list stays company-level. 10-K and 10-Q filings are summarizable. Filings refresh nightly from EDGAR. For the dedicated filings explorer and AI filing summaries, see Filings.

Peers
A comparables table placing the ticker beside up to five peers (sourced from the peer feed, current symbol excluded). Rows compare Market Cap, P/E, Forward P/E, P/S, EV/EBITDA, EPS, ROE, Gross Margin, Net Margin, Debt/Equity, Beta, and Dividend Yield. Best/worst values per row are highlighted (lower-is-better for Debt/Equity). Use it to sanity-check whether a name is cheap or expensive against its sector before you commit.
News
Ticker-filtered headlines, each tagged Bullish / Bearish / Neutral by sentiment, with timestamps and related-ticker chips that link onward. Free is capped at 5 articles; Pro+ is unlimited. Broader market news lives at /news, not here.
AI Briefing
A generated, structured brief on the company — business overview, recent catalysts, key risks, and consensus — synthesized from the page's own data sources (fundamentals, analyst estimates, earnings, insider activity, news; the source chips are shown at the bottom of the tab). A [ REGEN ] button forces a fresh generation. Loads automatically when you open the tab.
AI Briefing is paid-only: free users see an upgrade gate and the request never fires (this was deliberate — it stopped a 403 storm). On Pro, generation counts against your daily explainStock quota; Terminal is unlimited. A dockable Explain Stock side panel is also available to paid users from the header AI menu.

Limits
- AI Briefing generation counts against your daily
explainStockquota on Pro and is unlimited on Terminal; free users can't generate it at all. - Financials pull from the same issuer-filing source as the public
/stock/<TICKER>SEO page; GAAP reconciliations follow the filings, so restatements lag the original 10-Q by ~3 days. - Insider data and SEC filings refresh nightly from EDGAR — a same-day Form 4 lands the next morning.
- News is filtered to the ticker; broader market news lives at
/news. - Short-squeeze scores only exist for tickers in the squeeze universe (those with short-interest + borrow data).
- Level 2 depth and the live tape on the chart are Terminal-tier.
Troubleshooting
AI Briefing says Daily limit reached. You've used today's explainStock quota. Wait for the midnight UTC reset, or upgrade to Terminal for unlimited generation.
AI Briefing shows an upgrade gate. The briefing is paid-only — free accounts can't generate it, so the request is never fired. Start a Pro trial to unlock it.
Financials show N/A for a ticker I know reports. Some foreign issuers (ADRs without 20-F filings) and recent IPOs don't have enough US-format periods yet. Check the SEC Filings tab for the most recent 10-Q.
The squeeze score card says no score is available. The ticker isn't in the squeeze universe — it lacks the short-interest and borrow-fee data the score needs. Larger, fully-covered names will have one.
Insider Activity tab is empty. Either the company has no insiders filing Form 4 (rare) or the nightly EDGAR sync hasn't backfilled it yet; check the SEC Filings tab for any Form 4 rows.
My financials only show five periods. That's the free cap. Pro unlocks 20 periods (about five years) and Terminal shows the full filed history.
The Level 2 / tape panel won't open or shows nothing. The [ TAPE + L2 ] surface is Terminal-tier, and even then it streams only during market and extended hours — outside those windows it shows a "market closed" state.
/research/<TICKER> 404s or shows no data for a valid ticker. The symbol isn't in the active universe — usually a delisted or thin sub-$1 OTC name. Try /charts?symbol=<TICKER>, which falls back to a direct quote lookup.
Switching tickers left the old stock's order book on screen. The Level 2 and tape panels remount on symbol change; if you still see stale data, collapse and reopen [ TAPE + L2 ] or reload the page.
