Charts

Tapeboard Charts is the full charting workstation behind every quote, scanner row, and research page. It renders nine chart types, carries a 19-tool drawing engine with magnet snapping and per-symbol persistence, 83 technical indicators (configurable, templatable, plus your own custom formulas), an 84-pattern auto-detector, a split/dividend/earnings event layer, a TradingView-style crosshair Data Window, an Object Tree for managing everything you've drawn, and — on Pro — multi-chart layouts of one, two, or four color-linked panels. Drawings save per-symbol and sync across your devices.

What it is

A single pane defaults to candles with a volume sub-pane and intraday VWAP. From there you layer on indicators, drawings, pattern highlights, and event markers — all of which the branded PNG export composites so the image you download matches the screen. The whole surface lives at /charts, but the same AdvancedChart engine renders inside the scanner workspace, research pages, and the simulator replay cockpit, so the toolset is identical wherever a chart appears.

When to use it

Anywhere you'd open a chart — confirming a scanner hit, reviewing a setup on a higher timeframe, marking levels before the bell, or replaying a session bar-by-bar. 1-min and 5-min are the day-trade intervals; daily is the swing default. The Pro 1m / 5m / 1D triple in a 4-pane layout is the standard "is this still a setup?" check.

Open it

• Tier-gate: Free gets the full single chart, all 9 chart types, every drawing tool, all 84 pattern detectors, the events layer, the Data Window, the Object Tree, and 12 core indicators. Pro unlocks the remaining 71 indicators (83 total, including the full Community Equivalents group) and the multi-chart 2 / 4-pane layouts with color linking.

Chart types

Right-click the chart → Chart type, or use the bottom-left chart-type switcher. Nine types, persisted per device:

• Candles — the default OHLC candlestick.
• Heikin Ashi — smoothed candles that filter noise to expose trend.
• Bars — classic OHLC bars.
• Line — close-only line.
• Area — close line with a filled gradient.
• Baseline — area split above/below a baseline (green above, red below).
• Renko — brick chart. A new brick prints every time the close moves a full brick from the last brick. Brick size auto-sizes to ATR(14), tick-rounded for the price magnitude (finer for sub-$1 names, coarser for high-priced ones).
• Range — range bars. A bar closes once its high−low span reaches the range size (also ATR(14)-auto-sized), stripping time entirely so each bar represents equal price travel.
• Line Break — three-line break. A new line only prints when the close exceeds the extreme of the prior three lines; otherwise the candle is absorbed.

Renko, Range, and Line Break are synthetic types — Tapeboard transforms the real candles into bricks/bars in the browser, and every indicator, the Volume Profile, the crosshair, and the Data Window all compute against those synthetic bars so overlays stay aligned. VWAP is suppressed on synthetic types (the time axis is non-uniform). The price scale toggles Linear / Logarithmic / Percent independently from the right-click Scale submenu.

Drawing tools

Click [ DRAW ] in the toolbar to arm the engine. Tools are grouped into five TradingView-style category dropdowns; pick a tool, then click the chart to place it. There are 19 tools total:

LINES (Slash group)

• Horizontal Line — click once to drop a level across the whole chart.
• Horizontal Ray — click a bar; the level extends only to the right.
• Vertical Line — click to mark a bar/time.
• Trendline — click two points.
• Ray — click a start point and a direction; extends infinitely.
• Arrow — drag tail → head to drop a marker arrow.
• Parallel Channel — click A → B for the trend, then C to set the channel width.

FIB/GANN (Sigma group)

• Fibonacci Retracement — click two points (a swing high/low); draws the standard retracement levels.
• Fib Extension — click A → B (the move) → C (the origin) to project extension targets.
• Fib Fan — click two points; fans fib-ratio rays.
• Fib Circle — drag A → B (radius); draws concentric fib-ratio circles.
• Gann Fan — drag A → B to set the 1×1 (price/bar); rays radiate at 1×1, 1×2 … 8×1.
• Fib Speed/Resistance Fan — drag A → B (trend); rays at fib ratios.

SHAPES (Shapes group)

• Rectangle — click two corners to box a zone/range.
• Text — click to drop a text/callout label.
• Andrews Pitchfork — click A → B → C to draw the median line and its parallels.

POSITION (Crosshair group)

• Long Position — click an entry, then drag the stop/target/edge handles to set a risk/reward zone (R:R is computed and shown).
• Short Position — the inverse, for shorts.

TOOLS (Wrench group)

• Measure (Ruler) — drag A → B to read Δ price, Δ %, bar count, elapsed time, and volume. This one is transient — it shows while you drag and is not saved as a drawing.

Magnet mode. The MAGNET toggle (own button, green when on) snaps every drawing anchor to the nearest candle O/H/L/C, so your trendlines land exactly on wicks and bodies instead of mid-air. The setting persists and syncs live to the chart.

Favorites. Every tool has a star. Star the ones you use and they pin to a quick-access row at the front of the toolbar (and a FAVORITES grid in the compact popover). Favorites are stored locally.

Clearing. When drawings exist, a red CLEAR ALL (N) button appears. Its caret opens a scoped menu — clear just the horizontal lines, just the Fibonacci tools, just the rectangles, etc., each with its own count.

Persistence + sync. Drawings save per-symbol (localStorage-first, then synced to your account). Switch the symbol and that ticker's drawing state reloads; the same drawings appear across every timeframe of that symbol. They roll across your devices. Clearing browser storage on a signed-out session wipes the local copy.

Indicators / studies

Open the INDICATORS panel (the header reads "Technical Indicators (83)"). There are 83 studies — 20 price overlays, 30 oscillators, 5 volume studies, and 28 grouped under a COMMUNITY EQUIVALENTS section at the bottom of the catalog. Add one and it lands on the price pane (overlays) or in its own sub-pane below price (oscillators, volume, and community studies).

Add + configure. Click an indicator to add it. Indicators with parameters (MACD's fast/slow/signal, Bollinger's period/std-dev, Keltner's three inputs, Ichimoku's Tenkan/Kijun/Senkou-B, etc.) expose every parameter as an editable field — change a value and the study recomputes live. Each indicator also has a color swatch (a native color picker) so you can recolor any line; a reset affordance returns it to the registry default.

Search. Type to filter the catalog by name or short name.

Custom formula (Pine-lite). The catalog includes a formula editor: write an expression over open / high / low / close / volume using the built-in functions (e.g. ema(close, 9) - ema(close, 21)). Live validation shows a green "Valid formula" check or a red error; once valid, Add plots it as a custom line with its own color.

Templates + favorites. Save your current indicator set as a named template (TradingView-style) and re-apply it to any symbol with one click — applying a template replaces the active study set. Templates can be renamed and deleted. They're a local preference (no backend), as are starred indicators.

Community equivalents. A fourth catalog group, below Volume, holds indicators ported from well-known community/vendor studies and academic factor libraries rather than the classic textbook set — TTM Squeeze, Wave Trend, Connors RSI, Klinger, Elder Impulse, ALMA, KAMA, ZLEMA, and 20 more. Twelve of them (added 2026-07-11) are single-symbol quant momentum factors ported from published academic factor research (qlib158, the GTJA Alpha set, and Alpha101): Price Momentum 10D/20D/60D, Up-Day Ratio 10D, Down-Day Ratio 10D, High Position 10D, Low Position 10D, 5-Day Price Ratio, 6-Day Return %, Day Range Position, Price-Volume Divergence, and Up-Momentum Share 10D — each plots as a single oscillator line and each has a one-line description in the catalog explaining its formula and how to read it (e.g. Up-Day Ratio 10D: ">0.5 = bullish bias").

Free vs Pro. Free includes 12 staples: SMA, EMA, BB, VWAP, RSI, MACD, Stoch, ATR, Volume, OBV, Ichimoku, ADX. The other 71 — every oscillator/overlay/volume study beyond that list, plus the full Community Equivalents group — are Pro-only and show a lock on Free.

Patterns

Toggle pattern detection on and Tapeboard scans the visible bars for 84 patterns across seven families. Each detection carries a confidence rating (high / medium / low) reflecting its false-positive risk on real intraday data.

• Candlestick · Single-bar (10) — Doji, Hammer, Shooting Star, Spinning Top, Marubozu, Hanging Man, Inverted Hammer, and the like.
• Candlestick · Multi-bar (36) — Engulfing pairs, Morning/Evening Star, Harami, Three White Soldiers / Three Black Crows, Tweezers, Piercing Line, Dark Cloud Cover, Kicker, Tasuki Gap, Mat Hold, Three Inside/Outside, Abandoned Baby, and more.
• Chart · Price structure (16) — Head & Shoulders (and inverse), Double/Triple Top/Bottom, Ascending/Descending/Symmetric Triangle, Rising/Falling Wedge, Bull/Bear Flag, Cup & Handle, Rectangle, Broadening Formation. These fire only on the confirming breakout/neckline-break bar.
• Divergence · Oscillator (4) — RSI and MACD bullish/bearish divergences, computed inline with full RSI(14) and MACD(12,26,9).
• Velez · Oliver Velez setups (7) — Bottoming/Topping Tail, Narrow/Wide Range Bar, the Bullish Velez Setup, and Pristine Buy/Sell.
• Volume (3) — Volume Climax (20-bar extremes), Volume Dry-Up, Breakout with Volume.
• Harmonic · Fibonacci (8) — Gartley, Butterfly, Bat, Crab in bullish and bearish forms, with ±5% ratio tolerance. Rare by design; they confirm only on clean ratios.

The Pattern Sidebar has two tabs: DETECTED (newest-first list of hits on the current chart, each row showing name, signal direction, bar, confidence, and a one-liner) and CATALOG (the full 84-pattern library grouped by family, for reference). Hover a detected row to preview its highlight on the chart; click to pin it (multiple can be pinned at once). Candlestick patterns draw a sentiment-colored box (green bullish / red bearish / amber neutral) with a name pill; structural patterns (H&S, double tops, triangles) draw the actual pattern shape — the zig-zag through its real swing pivots plus the neckline.

Events

The EVENTS button toggles split and dividend markers directly on the candles. The adjacent caret opens the Events popover — a calendar-style list of the last 30 events for the symbol, color-coded: DIV (blue, "$X.XX per share"), SPLIT (green, e.g. "2:1 forward" / "1:10 reverse"), and EPS (yellow, "actual vs estimate"). Note: dividends and splits pin to candles as on-chart markers; earnings appear in the popover list (the calendar view) but are not drawn as candle markers. On /charts, the events toggle is per-panel — flipping it on one chart doesn't change the others.

Data Window

Right-click → Data Window opens a draggable, mono floating panel that prints exact values at the crosshair: the bar's time, O / H / L / C, change (absolute + %), volume, and every active indicator's value (with its color swatch) at that bar. Move the crosshair and the numbers update bar-by-bar; move it off-chart and the panel shows the latest bar (flagged "latest"). Drag the header to reposition it; press Escape or × to close.

Object Tree

The Object Tree lists every drawing on the chart with a per-row swatch and label. For each object you can show/hide (eye), lock/unlock (so it can't be moved), delete, and select. Selecting a row reveals a 7-swatch color editor to recolor that object. The header shows the total object count. It's an in-chart overlay; Escape closes it.

Layouts

On /charts the layout toggle offers 1 / 2 / 4 panes. One pane is a single full chart (Free). Two panes sit side-by-side (2×1); four panes form a 2×2 grid. The 2- and 4-pane layouts are Pro — on Free the toggle is hidden and you stay single-pane.

Each pane is independent: its own symbol input, interval, indicators, events toggle, price-scale mode, and removed-legend rows. Indicators follow a shared-then-override model — panes inherit the primary pane's study set until you edit one, after which that pane keeps its own (a per-panel "↺" reset re-inherits).

Linked charts. Click a pane's link-color chip to cycle through nine colors (red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, cyan, white) or off. Panels sharing a color sync their symbol — change the ticker in one and every same-colored pane follows. This is the same link bus the scanner uses, so a scanner row and a chart pane on the same color stay in sync.

Saving. Your /charts layout — pane count, each pane's symbol/interval/indicators/scale/link-color — is saved to your account and restored on reload, across devices. (This is separate from the broader scanner workspace system, which saves whole multi-panel cockpits.)

Bar Replay, Volume Profile, and the right-click menu

Right-click anywhere on the chart for the full action menu: Add alert at the clicked price, Add horizontal ray, Copy price, Reset chart view, Volume Profile (a horizontal volume-at-price histogram), Data Window, Bar Replay (rewind to a point in history and step or auto-play forward at 0.5× / 1× / 3× / 10× — indicators replay correctly against the revealed bars), Copy share link, Save / Copy chart image (branded PNG via the export service), plus the Chart type and Scale submenus. Right-clicking directly on a drawing adds object actions: Delete, Change color, Lock/Unlock, Show/Hide, Bring to front, and Set alert at that level.

How to use it

1. Type a ticker into the symbol input (or land via /charts?symbol=NVDA, or Enter from a scanner row). The chart loads at your last interval for that symbol.
2. Pick a timeframe from the interval row — from 10s scalp tape up to ALL. Number keys 1–9 map to the common intervals.
3. Switch the chart type from the bottom-left switcher (or right-click → Chart type) — try Heikin Ashi to clean up a choppy trend, or Renko/Range to strip time.
4. Open INDICATORS, search and add your studies, edit their parameters and colors, then save the set as a named template to re-apply on any ticker.
5. Click [ DRAW ], pick a tool from a category dropdown (or your favorites row), and draw. Flip MAGNET on so anchors snap to candle O/H/L/C. Drawings save per-symbol automatically.
6. Use the Long/Short Position tools to lay out a trade and read its R:R before you take it.
7. Toggle PATTERNS to auto-scan the chart; hover a detected row to preview, click to pin its highlight.
8. Toggle EVENTS for split/dividend markers, and open its caret for the dated events list.
9. Right-click → Data Window, then move the crosshair to read exact OHLCV + indicator values bar-by-bar.
10. Open the Object Tree to hide, lock, recolor, or delete anything you've drawn.
11. On Pro, set the layout to 2 or 4, give two panes the same link color, and change the symbol once to drive both. Your layout saves automatically.
12. Right-click → Save chart image to export a branded PNG that mirrors the on-screen state, or Bar Replay to step through the session.

Troubleshooting

The chart is blank with "No data available." That interval has no bars for the session. Try a longer timeframe — if 1D works but 1m doesn't, the ticker is illiquid or you're outside regular hours with extended-hours data off.

VWAP disappeared. VWAP is intraday-only and is also suppressed on the synthetic chart types (Renko / Range / Line Break) because their time axis isn't uniform. Switch back to candles on a 1m/5m/15m interval and it returns.

An indicator is greyed out with a lock. You're on Free and it's one of the 71 Pro studies. Use one of the 12 free indicators or upgrade — the count in the panel header ("(83)") is the full library.

My Renko bricks look too coarse / too fine. Brick size auto-sizes to ATR(14) and rounds to a sane tick for the price. There's no manual brick input in this version — switch intervals (ATR changes with the timeframe) to shift the brick scale.

The 2 / 4 layout buttons are missing. Multi-chart panes are Pro. On Free you get the full single chart; upgrade to split it into two or four linked panes.

I changed the symbol in one pane and another followed — why? They share a link color. Click a pane's link chip to cycle it to a different color or off to break the link.

Earnings aren't showing as markers on the chart. By design — only splits and dividends pin to candles. Earnings live in the Events popover's dated list (open the caret next to EVENTS).

My drawings vanished after switching symbols. They didn't — drawings are saved per-symbol, so each ticker shows only its own. Switch back and they reload. If you were signed out and cleared browser storage, the local copy is gone (signed-in drawings sync to your account).

The exported PNG shows a slightly different last price. The export service pulls the live mark at render time, so during extended hours it can lead the last regular-session candle by a few cents.

The Data Window says "No data." Move the crosshair onto the chart — with the crosshair off-chart it falls back to the latest bar, and on an empty interval there's nothing to resolve.
