CIFR Short Squeeze Score: 70 / 100
CIFR ranked on Tapeboard's 0-100 short squeeze leaderboard · components disclosed below · methodology fully published
This score isn't static — short interest re-settles every two weeks and CIFR's borrow fee can spike intraday. Tapeboard re-scores CIFR every day, ranks it against the full live squeeze board, and pairs it with a real-time scanner and watchlist — so you catch the setup changing, not a snapshot. Free, no card.
How CIFR got to 70 / 100
Since setup v5 (2026-09-28), a stock is ranked only if its short interest is at least 15% of float. Since setup v6 (2026-10-07), ranked names are scored 0-100 on 20-day volatility with the single largest daily move excluded (60%), 5-day float rotation (20%) and last-session relative volume (20%), each as a percentile among the gated names. A higher score means higher historical odds of a large move in either direction; it is not a directional call. The inputs below (short interest, borrow fee, float utilization, days to cover, momentum, short-volume ratio, fee change) are shown for context at zero weight.
| INPUT (CONTEXT, WEIGHT 0) | VALUE |
|---|---|

CIFR 30-day borrow fee and short interest trend
Trailing-30-day series of two of the highest-signal squeeze inputs for CIFR, the borrow fee (cost to short the stock) and short interest as a percentage of float. Free per-ticker borrow-fee history is not published by Fintel or Ortex on their public pages.

How the score is calculated
Tapeboard's short squeeze score (setup v6) gates on short interest of at least 15% of float (FINRA settlement, point-in-time and split-safe), then ranks by 60% 20-day volatility percentile (single largest daily move excluded) + 20% 5-day float-rotation percentile + 20% last-session relative-volume percentile. Out of sample, the top 10 moved +20% within five sessions about 17% of the time and fell 20% about 12% of the time, against 4.5% and 2.3% for all stocks. Sources: FINRA consolidated short-interest files for short interest, daily bars for volatility and rotation, broker-dealer stock-loan data for borrow fees (context), and FINRA CNMS daily short sale volume files for the heavy-short-volume flag (context; not the Reg SHO threshold list). The full methodology, including the calibrated odds table and known limitations, is published at /methodology/short-squeeze-score.

Frequently asked questions about CIFR squeeze risk
What does a Short Squeeze Score of 70 / 100 mean for CIFR?
A score of 70/100 puts CIFR near the top of Tapeboard's setup board: among heavily shorted stocks (short interest at least 15% of float) it has some of the highest recent volatility and float turnover. Historically, names ranked 1-25 reached +20% within five sessions about 13-17% of the time and fell 20% about 7-12% of the time, versus 4.5% and 2.3% for all stocks. It flags the odds of a large move in either direction; it is not a buy signal.
How fresh is the CIFR squeeze data?
CIFR's score recomputes once daily after the US market close (typically by 9 PM ET). Volatility and float rotation come from daily price bars; borrow fee and the other context fields refresh daily. Short interest is settled as of Sep 30, 2026 and is held between readings, because FINRA publishes short interest on a settlement schedule, not daily. That is why the SI %Float row above is stamped with its own as-of date. Real-time short interest does not exist publicly in US markets.
Is CIFR on the FINRA threshold list?
As of the most recent FINRA file, CIFR is not on the threshold list. The list is published end-of-day and a ticker can move on or off based on cumulative settlement failures over rolling five-day windows. See stocks currently on the threshold list.
