Dashboard

The Dashboard is the page that loads when you sign in. It's a single-screen briefing of the US market right now — a live ticker bar across the top, a type-and-go command bar, columns of live tiles below, and a macro footer. Every data panel re-fetches when you refresh, so one button (or one pull-to-refresh gesture on mobile) re-pulls the whole surface.

What it is

A grid of independent panels — if one data source is briefly unavailable, the rest of the page keeps working. On desktop it's a multi-column layout with the Economic Calendar and World Markets below. Mobile collapses to a single reordered column built for an active-trader phone glance — your watchlist first, then news, then market-wide tiles, with foreign indices last.

Each panel carries a brutalist §NN section number in its header (§00 DASHBOARD down to §11 WORLD_MARKETS) so you can reference a tile by its number. An Updated Ns ago badge in the top-right of the ticker bar counts seconds since the page loaded — that's your at-a-glance stale-check. The product tour can be restarted any time from Settings → Restart Tour.

When to use it

First thing in the morning to read the state of the tape before opening any single ticker. Mid-day to sanity-check breadth, the Fear & Greed regime, and sector rotation against what your positions are doing. After hours to scan the watchlist-earnings panel for tomorrow's calendar. It's the page you leave open on the second monitor all session.

Open it

• Tier-gate: Free — every panel renders for every signed-in tier. Anonymous (logged-out) visitors get the public market-overview tiles populated and a sign-up teaser in place of the personal/authed-only tiles.

Guest vs signed-in

If you're logged out (reverse-trial guest), the public tiles still populate: the ticker bar, sector performance, Fear & Greed, mini-heatmap, breadth, news, economic calendar, and world markets. The tiles that are inherently personal swap to a compact teaser (lock icon + "Sign up free") instead of mounting an empty widget: Market Movers, Pre-Market / session gaps, Watchlist Movers, and Watchlist Earnings. The movers/gaps teasers also link out to the Scanner, a surface guests can use right now.

The top ticker bar

The strip at the very top (§00 region) is a six-cell grid of the broad-market proxies, in display order:

Each cell shows the name, ticker, last price, and a coloured ▲/▼ percent. A per-cell status footer reads the session: equities show OPEN 09:30 EST / PRE-MARKET / AFTER HOURS / CLOSED 16:00 EST; outside regular hours an equity cell appends an extended-hours segment — O/N (overnight), PRE, or AFTER — when there's a fresh extended tick. Cells flash green/red for ~500ms on each price change.

Equity prices refresh automatically — about every 10 seconds when the market is open and every 30 seconds when it's closed; Bitcoin updates live in real time. The strip cards are display-only — they are not clickable links (use the command bar below them, or the global header search, to open a symbol). Each cell renders independently, so a single bad crypto or FX tick can't blank the whole strip.

Ticker command bar

Directly under the ticker bar sits the ticker command bar — a slim, Bloomberg-style type-and-go input (desktop only; hidden on phones, which use the header search). Press / anywhere on the dashboard to focus it, type a symbol (AAPL, NVDA, BRK.B), and press ENTER to jump straight to that symbol's research page. Esc blurs. Input is normalized to uppercase and validated against a symbol pattern; invalid input is silently rejected. Submitted tickers are added to the Command Palette's "Recent Tickers" list. The footer hint reads [ / ] FOCUS · [ ENTER ] GO.

Market Movers (§01)

MarketMoversPanel — the top-left tile. Two side-by-side sub-tables built from the cross-market movers feed, with a local cache for quiet windows:

• MOST_ACTIVE — the union of gainers, losers, and most-active names across S&P and Nasdaq, deduped and sorted by volume (top 8 shown).
• HIGH_VOL_TRENDING — the same universe ranked by |change%| × √volume, so it surfaces genuine big-mover-on-real-tape rather than a 200% gap on a few thousand shares. A $1 price floor is applied.

Each row shows a ticker chip, symbol, company name, CHG%, price, and volume. Click any row (or press Enter on it) to open that name's research page. The panel refreshes automatically — about every 30 seconds during regular hours and every 120 seconds otherwise — and stamps UPDATED Ns ago at the bottom. Full reference: Movers.

Session gaps (§02)

ConditionalMarketWidget — the bottom-left tile. It's session-aware off the ET wall-clock:

• Regular session — shows the gap table solo (rendered as OPEN_GAPS), so it doesn't duplicate §01.
• Pre-market / after-hours / overnight — shows the gap tables side-by-side: PRE_MARKET_GAPS next to POST_CLOSE_GAPS. The after-hours table falls back to top movers when AH is dark so the row is never half-empty.
• Weekend / holiday — collapses to a compact MARKET_CLOSED placeholder reading NO_SESSION_DATA.

For guests this tile is a sign-up teaser linking to Scanner.

Sector Performance (§03)

SectorPerformancePanel — the top-center tile. The 11 GICS sectors ranked by today's percent move, using the SPDR sector ETFs (XLK, XLV, XLF, XLE, XLY, XLP, XLI, XLU, XLRE, XLC, XLB). Each row is a diverging green/red bar with a zero-center tick; bars are scaled to the largest absolute move in the set so a flat 0–2% day still reads cleanly. Click any sector row to expand its constituent tickers inline — each chip opens that name's research page.

Mini-Heatmap (§04)

MiniHeatmap — the bottom-center tile. A 6×5 grid (30 cells) of the largest S&P names by market cap, each cell tinted green/red by today's percent change and showing the symbol plus its percent move. Click (or double-click) any cell to open that name's research page. Timeframe tabs (1D · 1W · 1M · 3M · YTD · 1Y) are shown in the header but only 1D is live here — the others read "Coming soon"; use the full page for week/month coloring. This is the same data as the standalone view. Full reference: Heatmap.

Fear & Greed (§05)

VixSentimentCard — top of the right column. The CNN Fear & Greed Index rendered as a 20-segment bar: red on the fear end, orange, yellow, green on the greed end, filled to the current score. The regime classifies as EXTREME_FEAR (<25), FEAR (<50), GREED (<75), or EXTREME_GREED (≥75), with EXTREME_FEAR · NEUTRAL · EXTREME_GREED end-labels. A floor height is pinned so the loading state and loaded state occupy the same box (no layout shift). It reads UNAVAILABLE if the index feed is down.

Market Breadth (§06)

MarketBreadthBar — second in the right column. A single advancers-vs-decliners bar with ADV % / DEC % fills and an ADV / UNCH / DEC count row beneath. Breadth is computed over the ~100-name heatmap universe, a broader read than a top-25 movers list. Refreshes automatically about every 120 seconds. Full reference: Breadth.

Watchlist Movers (§07)

WatchlistMoversPanel — third in the right column. Your active watchlist's symbols, sorted by absolute percent change (biggest movers first), each row showing a ticker chip, symbol, price, and percent. Click a row to open that name's research page. With no watchlist yet, the panel shows a one-click + BUILD YOUR WATCHLIST → CTA into /watchlist. It tracks the watchlist you've set active and refreshes automatically — about every 15 seconds during regular hours, 60 seconds otherwise. For guests this tile is a sign-up teaser.

Watchlist Earnings (§09)

WatchlistEarningsPanel — fourth in the right column. Upcoming earnings for the tickers in your active watchlist over a 7-day inclusive window (today through today+7, anchored to America/New_York so today's prints don't disappear after the day rolls over). Each row shows the ticker, the reporting session (e.g. BMO / AMC), and the date, sorted soonest-first. Click a row to open that name's research page. No watchlist → build CTA; a populated watchlist with nothing this week → an honest "No earnings in your watchlist this week". Related: Earnings Calendar.

Breaking News (§08)

NewsHeadlinesWidget — bottom of the right column. The latest six market-wide headlines, each line showing a relative timestamp (12m_AGO), a source/category/ticker tag, and a two-line clamped headline. Clicking a headline opens the source article in a new tab. A pulsing green LIVE chip shows during regular and pre-market sessions. Polls every 60s; reads NO_HEADLINES when the feed is empty. Economic Calendar (§10)

EconomicCalendarPanel — bottom-left footer (~60% width). This week's US macro prints in a Mon–Fri table: DAY · TIME · EVENT · ACTUAL · EST · PREV plus an impact dot (red = high, yellow = medium, faint = low). The ACTUAL cell colors green/red against the estimate (beat/miss), and event names link to their source release. The header shows the week range, and the table header pins on scroll. World Markets (§11)

WorldMarketsPanel — bottom-right footer. Live foreign indices in three columns — EUROPE · ASIA · AMERICAS — each row showing the index name, level, and percent change. When a local exchange isn't quoting live, the row dims and shows the as-of timestamp of its last regular print (hidden on phones to protect the name column). Refreshes automatically about every 60 seconds; region labels pin on scroll.

Mobile reorder

Mobile drops the grid and stacks single-column in this order: Watchlist Movers → Watchlist Earnings → Breaking News → Market Movers → Session Gaps → Market Breadth → Fear & Greed → Sector Performance → Economic Calendar → World Markets. Personal positions lead because that's the "what about me" slot; foreign indices tail because phone users rarely need them.

How to use it

1. Land on /dashboard — it auto-routes here when you're signed in. The ticker bar and tile grid populate in parallel.
2. Read the top ticker bar first: DIA, QQQ, SPY, IWM, Bitcoin, and EUR/USD give you the broad-tape pulse with live percent change and a per-cell session label.
3. Press / to focus the ticker command bar, type a symbol, and press ENTER to jump straight to that name's research page.
4. Scan the three columns — left for Movers and session-aware gaps, center for Sector Performance and the mini-heatmap, right for Fear & Greed, breadth, your watchlist, and news.
5. Click any Most-Active or High-Vol-Trending row in the Movers panel to open that name's research page.
6. Click a sector row in Sector Performance to expand its constituent tickers, then click a constituent chip to open it.
7. Click any cell in the mini-heatmap (single or double click) to open that S&P name's research page.
8. Click a Watchlist Movers row to open the ticker; build a watchlist from the inline CTA if you don't have one yet.
9. Check Watchlist Earnings for the reporting session (BMO/AMC) and date of anything you hold reporting in the next seven days.
10. Hit the desktop refresh button — or pull-to-refresh from the top on mobile — to fire dashboard:refresh and re-pull every panel at once.
11. Restart the onboarding walkthrough any time from Settings → Restart Tour, which appends ?tour=1 and replays the anchored tour.

Limits

• Each panel fetches its own data, so a slow data source slows one tile, never the whole page.
• The top ticker bar carries DIA, QQQ, SPY, IWM, BTC, and EUR/USD — it does not include VIX or DXY. Volatility lives in the §05 Fear & Greed tile; there's no dollar-index tile on the dashboard.
• Ticker-bar cells are not clickable; open a symbol via the command bar (desktop) or the header search.
• Breaking News shows the latest six headlines per refresh; for the full feed use the News page.
• The mini-heatmap only supports the 1D timeframe here; week/month/year coloring lives on the full Heatmap page.
• Market Breadth advancers/decliners are computed over the ~100-name heatmap universe, not all NYSE+NASDAQ issues.
• Session detection uses the ET wall-clock.
• Updated Ns ago is a page-load counter, not a per-panel data-age counter — it only zeroes on a full page reload.
• The Movers, session-gaps, Watchlist Movers, and Watchlist Earnings tiles require sign-in; logged-out guests see a sign-up teaser in their place.

Troubleshooting

One panel shows an error card or sits empty while the rest render fine. That panel's data source was briefly unavailable and the panel showed an error, isolating the failure to that one tile — the other panels are unaffected, so click that panel's refresh button to retry.

MARKET_CLOSED shows in the §02 gaps tile during weekday overnight hours. The session widget collapses weekends and holidays to a single closed state; if you see it between 8 PM and 4 AM ET on a weekday, overnight data is temporarily unavailable rather than the market being closed — try a refresh in a minute.

The top ticker bar is missing VIX and the dollar index. That's by design — the strip carries DIA, QQQ, SPY, IWM, Bitcoin, and EUR/USD only; volatility is surfaced through the §05 Fear & Greed regime gauge, and there is no DXY tile on the dashboard.

Clicking a cell in the top ticker bar does nothing. The strip cards are display-only and aren't links; to open one of those symbols, focus the command bar with / and type it, or use the global header search.

Pull-to-refresh on mobile doesn't fire. The scroll container has to be at the very top (scrollTop === 0) before the gesture registers, so scroll all the way up first, then pull down past the 80px threshold — that threshold is intentional to avoid accidental refreshes mid-scroll.

Updated Ns ago keeps counting past several minutes. That badge is a page-mount counter, not a fetch counter, so it doesn't reset when individual panels refresh — reload the page (or hit the global refresh) if you want it to zero.

The Watchlist Movers or Watchlist Earnings panel is empty with a build prompt. You haven't created a watchlist yet, so click the + BUILD YOUR WATCHLIST → CTA to open the watchlist builder, add symbols, and they'll populate both panels on the next refresh.

Movers, gaps, or watchlist tiles show a lock icon and a "Sign up free" prompt. You're viewing the dashboard logged out, so those authed-only and personal tiles are showing the guest teaser — sign in (or sign up) and they'll mount the real widgets; in the meantime the movers/gaps teasers link to the Scanner you can use right now.
