Tapeboard Connector
Click a ticker in Tapeboard, it lands in your trading platform, Windows, macOS and Linux
A small free desktop app that types the symbol you click straight into your trading platform's symbol box. It never places orders and never reads your account.
One click in Tapeboard, the ticker lands in your platform
The Tapeboard Connector is a small desktop app that runs on your computer. When you click a ticker in Tapeboard, the connector types that symbol straight into your trading platform's symbol box and presses Enter. It is symbol linking only: it never places, routes or changes an order. Your platform stays your platform.
It works on every plan, including the free tier, and with these platforms (the same list as the Settings, Preferences, Open tickers in picker):
- DAS Trader Pro
- TWS / Interactive Brokers
- Webull Desktop
- Lightspeed Trader
- thinkorswim
- TradingView Desktop
- Fidelity Trader+ / Active Trader Pro
- Generic (any app)
Pick the platform under Settings, Preferences, Open tickers in, then click Test connection once. Scanner rows, watchlist names and research pages all send tickers through the same link.
Download the connector
The app is not code-signed yet. Windows shows a "Windows protected your PC" prompt on first run (click More info, then Run anyway) and macOS requires a right-click, Open on first launch. Nothing installs in the background; delete the folder or app and it is gone.
Setup, plain steps
Windows
- Unzip the folder and double-click "Tapeboard Connector.exe" inside it.
- Leave the black window open. That window is the connector.
- In Tapeboard (Chrome or Edge): Settings, Preferences, Open tickers in. Pick your trading app and click Test connection. If the browser asks to allow access to apps on this device, click Allow.
If your broker runs as administrator, start the connector the same way (right-click, Run as administrator) or Windows blocks the typing.
macOS
- Open the DMG and drag Tapeboard Connector onto Applications.
- First launch only: in Applications, right-click Tapeboard Connector, choose Open, then click Open. A small icon appears in the menu bar; that is the connector.
- Grant Accessibility and Automation permission when macOS asks (typing into another app needs both), quit it from the menu-bar icon and reopen it once.
- In Tapeboard (Chrome, Edge, Brave or Firefox, not Safari): Settings, Preferences, Open tickers in. Pick your trading app and click Test connection.
Linux
- Unzip the folder, then start the connector in a Terminal: ./tapeboard-connector-linux-aarch64.
- The window says the connector is running. Leave it open.
- In Tapeboard: Settings, Preferences, Open tickers in. Pick your trading app and click Test connection.
Linux typing needs the xdotool package (install it with your distribution package manager). Without it the connector runs and connects, but typing fails. The download is an ARM (aarch64) build; on x86-64 use the Python fallback documented in the manual.
When something does not land
- Test connection says not connected: the connector is not running (Windows: the black window closed; macOS: no menu-bar icon). Start it, then click Test connection again.
- macOS blocked the keystroke: open the connector's menu-bar Permissions item and check Accessibility and Automation are both on, then quit and reopen it.
- The ticker went into the wrong window or field: the connector types into whatever has focus in your trading app. Click the symbol box or chart once, then send again.
- Webull with a custom layout does not change the chart: Webull sends the ticker to the active link group, so click a chart in your layout once first.
- After updating the macOS app, permissions drop: remove the old entry under Accessibility, turn the new one on, re-check Automation, then quit and reopen.
Connector FAQ
Is the connector free?
Yes. The download is free and symbol linking works on every plan, including the free tier. Tapeboard's paid plans gate data and analysis surfaces, not the connector.
Does it place orders or touch my brokerage account?
No. It types a symbol into the window you choose and presses Enter. It does not read your account, does not place, cancel or change orders, and does not log in to anything.
Which browsers work?
Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox on desktop. Safari blocks websites from reaching apps on your Mac, so the connector can never be seen from Safari.
Where does the connector send data?
The connector runs locally on your computer and talks to your tapeboard.com browser tab over a loopback connection (127.0.0.1). The symbol you click is the only thing it carries.
What does the Generic target do?
If your platform is not on the list, the Generic target types the symbol plus Enter into whatever window title you configure in the connector config file (~/.tapeboard-connector.json). Any app with a type-in symbol box works.
Scan, click, and the symbol is already in your platform.
The connector pairs with the real-time scanner: find the mover on Tapeboard, click it, and your platform loads the chart while you read the filings and the squeeze score.
