AI History

Every AI call costs real money and produces a real artifact. AI History keeps the artifact so you don't have to re-spend the credit. Every successful generation — stock briefings, market recaps, news digests, SEC filing summaries, earnings analyses, trade setups, portfolio health checks, morning briefings, company research, journal pattern reviews — lands in your history row-by-row, newest first, full content on click.

What it is

A paginated list of every AI output generated for your account, newest first. Each successful AI generation is saved automatically with its feature, ticker, full content, timestamp, and a note of the context it was built from. Saving an output also counts toward your 7-day trial AI usage, so the trial-quota counter on the dashboard reflects every generation.

Each row shows a short preview to keep the list light; clicking a row loads the full content. Scroll to the bottom and load more to page back through your history, 50 at a time.

When a generation is slow or rate-limited

When an AI call takes longer than usual, the panel shows a small "this is taking longer than expected" notice after a few seconds instead of a silent spinner — so you know the upstream is slow, not broken. When the data source behind a tool is rate-limited (a temporary overload on a free-tier feed), you get a clear "upstream rate-limited — retry in ~60s" chip instead of a raw red error. Successful generations still land in AI History; rate-limited ones don't cost a credit.

When to use it

When you ran a briefing two hours ago and want to re-read it instead of re-generating. When you want to compare today's morning briefing to yesterday's. When you're at trial-quota and need to ration the remaining calls — every row here is one you don't have to repeat. When you're auditing your own AI spend before upgrading from Pro to Terminal.

How to use it

1. Open /ai-history. The page loads the 50 newest entries with a feature filter dropdown, a ticker filter input, and a Reset chip.
2. Pick a feature from the dropdown to scope the list — Stock briefing, SEC filing summary, Trade setup, Morning briefing, etc. The dropdown auto-populates with the features actually present in your history (with counts), so the menu reflects your own usage, not the full catalog.
3. Filter by ticker with the input — typing AAPL narrows to AAPL-scoped outputs.
4. Click any card to open the detail modal. The modal renders the full content with the same formatting as the original generation, plus a Source: strip showing what context was used to build it.
5. Click Delete in the modal to prune entries. A confirmation prompt makes it explicit: the original credit is not refunded. You can only delete your own outputs.
6. Load more at the bottom loads the next page. The list pages 50 at a time.
7. Empty state on a new account links to /dashboard (for a stock briefing) and /research/AAPL (for company research) — quickest path to populating the history.

Limits

• Trial cap: free accounts within 7 days of signup get 3 total AI generations across every feature. Once you hit the cap the AI feature stops generating, so nothing new lands in your history
• Per-feature daily caps on Pro: stock briefing 20/day, news digest 10/day, economic explain 15/day, watchlist risk 5/day, morning briefing 3/day, company research 10/day, and the command-bar Q&A is Terminal-only; see Settings AI Usage Today for live counters
• Filing summary: 20/day on Pro, 50/day on Terminal; a recently-summarised filing is reused from cache and doesn't add a new history row
• Retention: indefinite — there's no automatic expiration. Your history keeps growing until you delete entries manually
• Heavy users (hundreds of long briefings) build up a large history; there's no size cap
• Deletes do not refund credits or trial usage. The original spend is locked in regardless of whether you keep the output
• As of 2026-05-17 the feature is shipped, surfaced in the sidebar, and reliably saves on every successful AI generation

Troubleshooting

I just ran a briefing and it's not in my history. Two cases. (1) The generation failed (a temporary AI error or hitting your trial quota) — only successful generations are saved. Re-run; if the same error repeats, check /settings#billing for trial status. (2) The save happens just after the output appears on screen, so there's a sub-second window where the AI page has rendered but the history entry hasn't landed yet. Reload after one second.

The history is empty even though I'm on Pro. Either you haven't run an AI feature yet, or the filters are scoped past your data. Hit Reset filters. If still empty: open /dashboard and trigger a stock briefing — it'll appear immediately.

Filing summary was reused and isn't in my history. Correct. A recently-summarised filing is reused from cache rather than re-generated, and re-displaying it doesn't count as a new generation — the original already saved a history entry. A genuinely new filing always generates fresh and saves a new entry.

I deleted an entry by mistake. The saved output is gone. There's no undo. The original AI spend isn't refunded either. If you need the output back, re-generate it (which costs another credit).

Detail modal shows a 404. Two causes: the entry was just deleted (someone else on your account, or you in another tab); or the link is broken. For privacy, a not-yours entry and a not-found entry look the same — both return 404.

I want to export my history. No bulk export exists yet. A one-click export is on the roadmap for the data-rights surface.
