What we built this August (and today)
One month, one terminal: a voice that reads you the market, alerts that meet you where you are, paper trading with no account, and the whole thing got faster and kinder on mobile. Here's what changed — and why.
August was the month Tapeboard stopped being "the scanner with more stuff" and started feeling like the desk it was supposed to be. Quicker pages, a voice that reads the tape out loud, a simulator you can use before you ever sign up, and enough small honesty fixes to fill a separate post. Here's the tour — mobile and desktop both.
The market, read out loud
The biggest new thing: a 24/7 audio channel that reads breaking headlines as they land. One tap on 'NEWS AUDIO' (scanner toolbar, mobile tab row, sidebar, or the /stream page) and the terminal talks: company name, ticker, what happened, how much it moved — no screen required. Pick your lane: everything, just movers-and-halts, or just macro. Set the volume once and it remembers across all your devices.
Same week, the alert system got its long-overdue overhaul: a real notification center in Settings with a master mute, per-category switches, quiet hours, and one-tap templates ("Big move", "Breakout", "Volume spike"). When an alert fires while the radio plays, the radio politely drops under the chime — the way a real desk does it.

The phone version grew up
This was the month mobile stopped being "the small version":
- The Simulator rebuilt for one thumb — searchable tickets, reachable fills, replay the tape like a DVR.
- Journal became a first-class tab with cards sized for real fingers.
- Charts drawer, watchlist rows, and the scanner's tab row all got the same treatment — everything thumb-reachable, nothing clipped.
- The audio channel button lives in the mobile scanner's tab row now, too — a 40px chip that doesn't miss.

The quiet honesty pass
A good terminal has to be boring in the right ways. This month that meant: pricing pages that say what they mean (including the half-off first-month comeback links actually showing the sale price), scanners that stop twitching while rows update, the pre-market page no longer replaying Friday's numbers on Monday, one-tap Google signup, and — yes — emails that can't die silently anymore because we run them over a fallback chain instead of one provider.
