Robinhood Legend is great. Here's what it doesn't do.

Robinhood Legend is the most credible move Robinhood has made for serious traders in years. The question for an active trader isn't whether Legend is good — it's whether Legend covers the research surface your trade decisions actually depend on. Brokers ship execution. Research signal — filings, options analytics, squeeze composites, custom scanners — lives in a different layer.

Legend is free with a Robinhood account. It ships an 8-chart desktop layout, multi-leg options support, futures, and the Cortex AI assistant gated to Robinhood Gold at $5/month. If you trade through Robinhood, Legend is where you should be charting. It is a real upgrade over the Robinhood mobile app.

But Legend is a brokerage front-end. Its job is to execute orders Robinhood routes, and it inherits both Robinhood's strengths and Robinhood's scope. Four gaps active traders run into within a few sessions:

1. No sub-90-second SEC filing alerts

Robinhood Legend surfaces basic filings on the ticker page. It does not push Form 4 insider buys, 8-K item 5.02 leadership changes, or 13G/A activist filings into your watchlist alert system within 90 seconds of EDGAR posting. That alert pipeline is the entire edge for a class of trades — Form 4 buys above $500k from insiders with non-trivial signal history, 8-Ks announcing strategic alternatives, surprise dividend cuts. Cortex AI can answer questions about your portfolio; it does not fire push notifications on filings.

2. No deep options analytics

Legend trades options. It does not surface gamma exposure (GEX), IV rank percentiles, unusual options volume relative to 30-day average, or options-flow heatmaps as research surfaces. Cortex AI offers quick natural-language summaries; it does not replace a dedicated options analytics layer.

3. No custom-criteria real-time scanner

Cortex AI offers AI-driven scan ideas — natural-language queries against Robinhood's universe. What it does not offer is explicit filter combinations like "float under 20M, RVOL above 5, gap percent above 4, news catalyst present." Active traders depend on reproducible filter logic — the same scan running every morning, output sortable by float ascending. 4. No halt, LULD, or premarket alerts at depth

Trading halts, LULD limit states, and premarket gap-up runners from 4:00 AM ET are existential signals for the small-cap workflow. Legend's alert system is built for price and position events — not market structure events at the depth an active trader needs.

What this means in practice
